French toast (or eggy bread as it’s known in our house) isn’t the prettiest breakfast, but you’ll be hard pushed to find something more satisfying or delicous on a cold wintery day!
We woke up to a good covering of snow this morning so even though it’s a school day, I thought I’d make the effort. It’s not much more trouble than just making toast and the result really sets you up for the rest of the day!Ingredients
- 2 slices of bread
- 1 egg
- 6 tablespoons milk
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- butter for frying
- honey or maple syrup to serve
In a shallow dish beat together the egg, milk and cinnamon.
Heat a bit of butter in a frying pan. Dip one slice of bread into the eggy-mixture for a few seconds then turn over and do the other side (don’t leave it in too long or it will soak up all the mixture then just fall apart).
Put the bread straight into the bubbling butter and let it sizzle on a medium heat for about 30 seconds until it’s lightly brown and crisp, then flip and repeat.
Repeat with the second slice of bread and when both are done drizzle with honey or maple syrup and eat while they’re lovely and warm, yum!
